Singapore Country Report
Singapore is a small city-state in Southeast Asia with one of the highest per capita incomes in the world. Unlike many of its neighbors, the city government has experienced continuous political stability since its independence under the one-party rule of the People’s Action Party (PAP). However, due to the weakening of the opposition as well as the submissive civil society due to the government’s tight control over the public sphere, there are no credible political alternatives.
Crime, conflict and riots are not a threat in Singapore. The country faces a potential terrorist threat due to the presence of transnational extremist groups in Southeast Asia and Singapore’s position as a global financial center with a large immigrant population. However, the authorities have put in place very effective laws and security measures to prevent any attack. The country’s reputation for neutrality and high safety standards made it the site of the historic summit between the US and North Korean leaders in June 2018.
Singapore is immune to strong typhoons and earthquakes due to its location, but some low-lying areas of the island are prone to flooding during heavy rains. Medical standards are high, but outbreaks of mosquito-borne diseases are common, especially during the monsoon season.

Also, while the country has not experienced a terrorist attack in recent years, it is worth noting that a plot targeting various locations in Singapore has been discovered and foiled.
