Macau has public buses. They are usually timely and safe. Personal and property security is generally good on buses within and between Macau.

Car rental and driving conditions

Rental cars are also available. Foreigners who intend to drive in Macau must have a valid driver’s license. Please choose a vehicle according to road and weather conditions. Road safety in Macau is generally good. Familiarize yourself with local laws and driving practices. Lock doors and windows and keep valuables out of sight. Thieves may target parked vehicles as well as vehicles stuck in slow traffic or traffic lights. Park in a well-lit and crowded area or a safe place.

Taxi and carpool services

In Macau, taxis are readily available at official stands outside airports, train stations, bus stations, or organized queues in central areas of the city. It is safe to take a taxi on the street. Regular taxis are usually gray or white. Taxi drivers are generally reliable, but always agree on the fare, the number of passengers, and whether a receipt is provided before boarding, if necessary. If possible, ask a local host or hotel staff to order a reliable taxi service for you.

Macao offers ride-sharing services and vehicles ordered through an online app.

There are regular domestic flights from Macau to other cities. Major airlines operate scheduled flights from Macau to various international destinations.

Macau International Airport (MFM) is Macau’s main international airport, located approximately 4.8 kilometers (3 mi) south of Macau. Public transportation from the airport includes buses, ferries, and taxi services. Airport limousine services and car rentals are also available. Airport security personnel are individually trained and supervised, and passenger security screening procedures are efficient and effective. Theft is a daily threat, so it’s important to keep your luggage and all your personal belongings safe and secure. Chronic weather problems cause arrival and departure delays.
