  • Western media didn’t do much more than ‘parrot Israeli propaganda’Mohamad Elmasry, a media studies professor at the Doha Institute for Graduate Studies, has finished empirical studies looking at Western media coverage of Israel’s war on Gaza.He found that Western media didn’t do much more than “parrot Israeli propaganda regarding al-Shifa Hospital [in Gaza City] and the war more generally”.Western news outlets, such as BBC, CNN, Sky News, MSNBC, Fox News, and others “tended to rely overwhelmingly on Israeli and pro-Israeli sources. Palestinian sources were mostly neglected as were pro-Palestinian sources”, he told Al Jazeera.“It’s not a conspiracy; it’s not as though journalists are showing up to work and saying, we’re really going to make the Israelis look good today. But there is a structural problem here today,” Elmasry added.“Western news organisations simply do not get Israel-Palestine right.”
  • Hospitals across Gaza in dire need for ceasefireReporting from Deir el-Balah, GazaThe medical situation at Al-Aqsa Hospital in central Gaza’s Deir el-Balah and other hospitals across the Gaza Strip remains critically dire following a year of deadly war.Al-Aqsa Hospital is incredibly overwhelmed, and its medical resources have been widely and critically depleted. The facility has been struggling to cope with the influx of hundreds of patients arriving daily, with very limited staff and operating theatres.Organisations such as Doctors Without Borders have been providing critical support to Al-Aqsa Hospital and many hospitals across Gaza, but given the scale of the crisis on the ground, the needs far outweigh the available assistance.Al-Aqsa Hospital exemplifies the catastrophic state of Gaza’s healthcare system across many areas where the need for a ceasefire and humanitarian access day by day mounts.
