  • Rescuers are searching for survivors in the Potomac River after an American Airlines plane collided midair with a military helicopter near Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport outside Washington, DC.
  • Police said multiple agencies were involved in the search and rescue operation in the river, which borders the airport, but there was no immediate word on casualties. Washington, DC, fire chief John Donnelly said that at least 300 first responders were involved in the “highly complex” rescue operation in the US state of Virginia.

  • Trump says crash ‘should have been prevented’While the Pentagon said it was launching an immediate investigation into the incident, President Donald Trump appeared to blame the helicopter crew and air traffic controllers in a post on Truth Social.“The helicopter was going straight at the airplane for an extended period of time. It is a CLEAR NIGHT, the lights on the plane were blazing, why didn’t the helicopter go up or down, or turn,” Trump wrote.“Why didn’t the control tower tell the helicopter what to do instead of asking if they saw the plane. This is a bad situation that looks like it should have been prevented. NOT GOOD!!!”
