Lightning strike causes large gas explosion at recycling plant in UK

A lightning strike caused a massive gas explosion at a food waste recycling facility in the UK, local media reported on Monday. Eyewitnesses described a dramatic fireball illuminating the night sky following the blast, which occurred at Severn Trent Green Power’s Cassington AD (anaerobic digestion) facility near Yarnton, located north of the city of Oxford. Severn Trent Green Power, which specializes in converting food waste into biogas, reported that the lightning strike triggered the explosion of one of its biogas tanks around 7.20 p.m. local time. Residents in Witney, Burford, Chipping Norton and Milton-under-Wychwood reported experiencing power outages, according to the BBC. MIANWALI   –  A police constable was martyred after a group of terrorists attacked a Punjab Highway Patrolling Post in Mianwali. A crossfire also left two terrorists dead and another severely injured. According to a Punjab Police spokesman, a group of more than 10 terrorists attacked Eisa Khel Kundal patrolling post in early hours on Sunday. An exchange of fire took place between the suspects and Punjab police officials who foiled the attempt of the suspects to enter the patrolling post’s building. The firing left two suspects dead while a police head constable Haroon Khan martyred. Terrorists carry out attack in Ankara

FO says Islamabad stands with Ankara in fight against terrorism ANKARA  –  Two attackers detonated a bomb in front of Turkish government buildings in Ankara on Sunday, leaving both of them dead and two police officers wounded, and a Kurdish militant group claimed responsibility for the attack. Authorities called it the first terrorist attack in the capital in years. CCTV footage showed a vehicle pulling up to the Interior Ministry’s main gate and one of its occupants quickly walking toward the building before being engulfed in an explosion, while the other remains on the street. The blast killed one of the attackers and authorities “neutralised”, or killed, the other, the interior minister said of the incident that rattled a central district that is home to ministerial buildings and nearby parliament. In a speech at the opening of a new parliamentary session hours later, President Tayyip Erdogan called the morning attack “the latest attempt” to inflict terror on Turks. “Those who threaten the peace and security of citizens have not achieved their goals and never will,” he said. The ANF News website, which is close to the Kurdistan Workers Party (PKK) militant group, said a group called the ‘Immortals Battalion’ had carried out the attack, citing a PKK statement. The statement described the bombing as a ‘suicide attack’ planned to coincide with the opening of parliament and carried out by “a team of ours linked to our Immortals Battalion”. A senior Turkish official told media the attackers had hijacked the vehicle and killed its driver in Kayseri, a city 260 km (161 miles) southeast of Ankara, before carrying out the attack. One of the injured officers suffered shrapnel injuries, he added. “Two terrorists came with a light commercial vehicle in front of the entrance gate of the General Directorate of Security of our Ministry of Internal Affairs and carried out a bomb attack,” Ali Yerlikaya, the interior minister, said on social media platform X. Meanwhile, Caretaker Prime Minister Anwaarul Haq Kakar on Sunday strongly condemned the dastardly terrorist attack in Ankara and expressed solidarity with Turkiye. “Pakistan strongly condemns the dastardly terrorist attack in Ankara today. We stand in complete solidarity with our Turkish brothers and sisters in the fight against the scourge of terrorism. I have no doubt that under the dynamic leadership of my brother (President Recep Tayyip Erdogan), the resolute Turkish nation will emerge ever stronger from this challenge,” PM Kakar wrote on his X handle. Separately, in a press release shared by PM Office Media Wing, the Pakistan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA) said, “Pakistan resolutely stands with Turkey in its fight against the scourge of terrorism…. The Turkish nation will defeat this menace and emerge ever stronger.” Source:https://www.nation.com.pk/02-Oct-2023/terrorists-carry-out-attack-in-ankara

New York City under state of emergency as massive flooding takes hold

New York City is under a state of emergency due to massive flooding on Friday from a storm system expected to dump up to 8 inches (20 centimeters) of rain across the city over a 24-hour period. “This is time for heightened alertness and extreme caution,” Mayor Eric Adams said at a virtual news conference. The torrential rains have already flooded the subway system, while parts of LaGuardia Airport have been shut down, resulting in cancellations and delays throughout the metropolis. Residents of America’s most populous city of nearly 8.5 million people are all under a flash flood watch for the entire day, causing chaos, especially for those who are outdoors. “If you are at home, stay home. If you are at work or school, shelter in place,” Adams emphasized. “If you are out … and encounter a flooded area, be it on a roadway or a subway station, do not enter.” New York Governor Kathy Hochul issued a joint state of emergency with Mayor Adams and announced that the National Guard had been deployed to help rescue crews save stranded motorists and those flooded in their homes during this life-threatening weather event. “If people decide to venture out in a vehicle, they do so at their own peril because even 6 inches of rain, one foot of rain, it may look pretty innocuous, it’s safe, but that is a condition where your vehicle can be swept away,” said Hochul. “We lose more lives of people during flooding events … the reason people lose their lives in a flood event, more often than that is they’re swept away in their vehicles.” Officials are stressing safety as the heavy rain and flooding continue as efforts continue to get the subways back up and running. In the meantime, more buses are being put on the streets to help commuters eventually get back home. “We want to make sure we can get the subways, the trains, our communication system, our transportation system up working because there’s children who use the subways to get home from school, people need to be able to know if they can get home from work,” said Hochul. “And so that is priority number one, to make sure our subways and our railway systems are safe.” The storm system is expected to hover over New York City for about 20 hours and officials are warning residents not to be fooled by any lull in the bad weather. “This is a dangerous weather condition and it is not over and I don’t want those gaps in heavy rain to give the appearance that it is over. It is not,” said Adams. “We could possibly see eight inches of rain before the day is over.” Source:https://www.nation.com.pk/30-Sep-2023/new-york-city-under-state-of-emergency-as-massive-flooding-takes-hold

Four soldiers martyred, 3 terrorists killed in border clash: ISPR

Four Pak Army soldiers were martyred while three terroists were killed in a crossfire near Pak-Afghan Border, the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said on Sunday. According to the military’s media wing, security forces thwarted an attempt of the outlawed Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) terrorists’ bid to infiltrate from Afghanistan into Pakistan. The incident took place on September 28 at 5:45pm (PST), the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said in a statement, as law enforcers ramp up efforts against terrorists having safe havens in Afghanistan. As a result of the standoff, four soldiers — Havildar Sattar, Lance Naik Sher Azam, Lance Naik Adnan, and Sepoy Nadeem — embraced martyrdom after having fought valiantly. The soldiers also sent three terrorists “to hell”, the ISPR said, noting that “few” other militants were also injured during the gunbattle. “Security forces of Pakistan will continue to thwart efforts of the enemies of peace and prosperity in the country,” the military’s media wing added. Fourteen-year-old stabs five at Spanish school

MADRID-A 14-year-old, described by fellow pupils as hot-headed, on Thursday, stabbed three teachers and two students in a school in southern Spain before being overpowered, police said. The boy, who has not been named, allegedly stabbed the five victims repeatedly shortly after classes started at the school in Jerez de la Frontera, police spokesman Adrian Dominguez told reporters at the scene. “Police located the suspect on the third floor. He had in his possession the two knives used to attack three teachers and two students,” Dominguez said, adding the suspect had been taken to a police station. The spokesman was unable to comment on the extent of the injuries, but Spanish media said one teacher was in serious condition after being stabbed in the eye while the rest suffered light injuries. The attack caused alarm in Spain, where violent crime is fairly rare. Parents rushed to the school after hearing about the stabbing, gathering outside the gates which were cordoned off by police, images broadcast on Spanish TV showed. Several people killed in shooting at Netherlands university

Dutch police said a gunman opened fire in a classroom at a university hospital campus in Rotterdam and a nearby house on Thursday causing multiple deaths. A 32-year-old suspect was arrested after police said on social media that shots had been fired at the Rotterdam Medical Centre and a home. They also said fires had broken out at both locations. It was unclear how many people were hurt at each location. Officers were entering the premises of the hospital university in search of possible victims or people hiding, Dutch news agency ANP reported. Videos posted online showed police instructing students, some wearing medical gowns, to run outside as heavily armed arrest teams arrived at the scene. One video showed a man in handcuffs wearing what appeared to be camouflage pants. Two hours later police said there had been multiple deaths and that victims’ family members were being informed. “This is a very dark day,” caretaker Minister of Justice and Security Dilan Yesilgöz was quoted by newspaper de Telegraaf as saying in comments made in Brussels. Police said there were no indications of a second shooter. A press conference was scheduled by local officials.
