Saint Lucia Country Report
Saint Lucia is an island nation in the British Commonwealth of Nations with strong French influence from its colonial past. As in many other Caribbean countries, tourism and services such as offshore banking have become mainstays of the economy as traditional agricultural exports decline in the face of competition elsewhere. St. Lucia features so much on cruise ship itineraries that many tourists only spend a few hours on the island each year.
Saint Lucia has and continues to have a significant crime problem, which has been exacerbated by the slow economic recovery since the 2008/09 global financial crisis. So, while crime is the biggest threat to visitors to the island, in more absolute terms, it remains only a moderate threat.
