Laos Country Report
Laos is a developing country in Southeast Asia. Since the end of the civil war, the Lao People’s Revolutionary Party (LPRP) has established itself as the only major political force in the communist country, consolidating its dominance in both the public and private spheres. There is also no threat to the current leadership and a sudden change of government is unlikely in the short to medium term.
There is little risk of terrorism or crime in this country, but there are nominal threats of civil unrest and labor unrest. However, low-level armed conflict continues in the northern region due to the Hmong-led insurgency. Corruption and weak rule of law can have a significant impact on business operations.
Many areas of Laos are vulnerable to earthquakes and powerful storms. In addition, the country is prone to extreme weather events such as El Nino and La Nina. Medical care is limited and most pharmacies sell counterfeit drugs without a license.

Security
Although the affected areas are limited to the northern regions, there is a credible risk of conflict. While the crime threat in urban centers is primarily petty and opportunistic in nature, theft is a concern in rural areas. The risk of terrorism and insurgency is considered very low.

Infrastructure
There are several safety concerns for air and land travel in Laos.
Although internet connection speeds are among the slowest in Southeast Asia, electricity supply and mobile network coverage are adequate and considered relatively reliable, especially in urban areas. Cybercrime is not a big threat either, but the risk may increase as more people connect to the Internet.
