Environment
Japan is known for its comprehensive and effective disaster preparedness programs. However, the risk of human injury and destruction from natural disasters such as earthquakes, volcanic eruptions, and hurricanes is significant given the historical record of high-impact events that can overwhelm existing safety measures. Although hurricane season is year-round, most hurricane activity occurs from July through September. During this period, a major flood may occur, causing disruption and loss of life. Although modern construction techniques, early warning systems, and evacuation plans have reduced the impact of earthquakes in Japan, seismic phenomena remain a significant threat to Japanese personnel and business operations.
