- PA president approves new governmentMahmoud Abbas, the president of the Palestinian Authority, which has limited powers in parts of the occupied West Bank, has approved the new government presented by Prime Minister Mohammed Mustafa.The new government members are set to take office on Sunday.Mustafa said the “top national priority” for the new government would be the end of the war in Gaza, adding that his cabinet “will work on formulating visions to reunify the institutions, including assuming responsibility for Gaza”.Abbas’s longtime economic adviser, Mustafa replaces former Prime Minister Mohammed Shtayyeh who, along with his government, resigned in February citing the need for change amid Israel’s war on Gaza and escalating violence in the West Bank.
